A
Few Cutting Patterns for Untempered Masonite Using Standard Sizes for
Oils and Acrylics |
| |
1)
Remember, that the saw blade itself will "eat" 1/8"
of the board at each cut! Before
commencing verify that the boards are at least 49"x 97" and
NOT 48"x 96". Though
the diagrams don't show it, there will always be a little scrap (about
an inchor so) left over.
2) All measurements are "clear".
3) Framing size allowance is only 1/16", too large and it won't
fit into a standard frame, too small and the board will fall out of the
frame.
4) Be certain that all cuts are square. Use 1/8"
thickness for boards cut up to 20"x 30". Larger than
this will require 3/8" thick boards to prevent warping while
painting.
5) Max recommended size for masonite boards for painting is about 36"x
48". Larger than this would required bracing as the board will tend
to warp .All sizes are for standard American sized frames.
6) Board will require minimum 2 layers undiluted gesso or 4-6 layers if
diluted. Apply as demoed in class.
7) Normally we designate framing sizes using
the smaller number first. ie: 18"x 24". When designating
sizes to finished paintings, the vertical is always listed first. In photography
and computer work the horizontal is always designed first. For the purposes
of this table only the VERTICAL WILL ALWAYS BE THE FIRST NUMBER.

ZACH
WILL BE USING PATTERN # 6 . We will be using the small pieces for
miniatures.
